"Music to inspire and nourish the soul."

Cycles

To a mother of young children, it seems that the duties of motherhood last nearly an eternity! However, when the children are grown, looking back, it seems no time at all since they were babies, and those formerly mundane motherly duties are remembered with tenderness and longing. That is the message of the song, "Cycles."

Lyrics
Cycles
Not so very long ago I held you in my arms,
And now you have a baby of your own.
But only when I see you hold your little baby son,
Do I realize how very much you've grown,
Although so many years ago, it seems like yesterday
That seeing me would make you smile and chase your tears away.
Not so very long ago I tucked you into bed,
And now you hear your own child's night time prayers.
Back then I answered questions, and I soothed your childish fears,
But now it's you who eases childhood cares.

The cycle starts anew each time a babe is born.
The role I filled so long now belongs to you.
You'll pass it to your baby in not too many years.
I got it from my mom when I had you.

Not so very long ago you ran into my arms.
I held you tight and kissed your pain away,
But now you have the magic lips that heal a thousand hurts,
And you send your smiling child back to his play.
Now I remember vividly the dancing of your eyes,
Your dimpled grin and giggle when you shared a big surprise.
Not so very long ago I taught you how to read,
And now you're reading stories to your son.
Your child is learning letters, and I know it won't be long
"Till he is reading books to everyone.

The cycle starts anew each time a babe is born.
The role I filled so long now belongs to you.
You'll pass it to your baby in not too many years.
I got it from my mom when I had you.

Not so very long ago time moved extremely slow,
And Christmas seemed a hundred years away,
But now that I am older, years fly quickly as the wind,
And it seems you were a child yesterday.

Not so very long ago I sought my mom's advice
On all the things I really wish I knew.
You ask me those same questions, and in just a few short years,
Your baby will be asking them of you.

The cycle starts anew each time a babe is born.
The role I filled so long now belongs to you.
You'll pass it to your baby in not too many years.
I got it from my mom when I had you.
I got it from my mom when I had you.
