"Music to inspire and nourish the soul."

The American's Creed

In 1917, William Tyler Page pulled key phrases from historic U.S. documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address to pen the essay, "The American's Creed." With it, he won a national patriotic essay contest. This essay was named as "the best summary of the political faith of America." The following year, "The American's Creed" was adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives as the official creed of the United States of America. This essay provides the lyrics for the song, "The American's Creed." The music attempts to capture the beauty and power of these time-honored principles that have made the United States of America the bastion of freedom that it is today.

The American's Creed
I believe in the United States of America
As a government of the people, by the people, for the people;
Whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed,
A democracy in a republic,
A sovereign Nation of many sovereign States;

A perfect union, one and inseparable;
Established upon those principles of freedom,
Equality, justice, and humanity
For which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.

I, therefore believe it is my duty to my country
To love it, to support its Constitution,
To obey its laws, to respect its flag,
And to defend it against all enemies,
To defend it against all enemies!

I believe . . .
