"Music to inspire and nourish the soul."

My Hero

We usually think of heroes as someone famous or wealthy or, perhaps, someone who has died while standing true to his/her beliefs. The song, "My Hero" talks about another kind of hero: one who lives among us, quietly and diligently trying her/his best to do what is right in the midst of challenge or affliction. In this sense of the word, a hero can be anyone—even a youth, perhaps your own son or daughter!

Lyrics
My Hero
You're my hero, not because I want to be like you someday,
But because I wish I'd been more like you when I was your age.
In a world of changing values like this one seems to be,
It's a joy to see a person standing firm in her beliefs.
In a world of changing values like this one seems to be,
It's a joy to see a person standing true . . . like you do.

You don't feel much like a hero when these problems you must face,
But the measure of a hero is to bear with love and grace.
For a hero's only human and lives with earthly cares,
But she bears her burdens willingly, e'en when they seem unfair.
Yes, a hero's only human and lives with earthly cares,
Yet she tries to lift a friend who's feeling blue . . . like you do.

I am glad that you're my hero, and I'm glad that you're my friend.
For you've lifted me so many times when I was at wit's end.
Now I know you're only human and have your problems, too,
But the times I need a friend, I know that I can count on you.
Yes, I know you're only human and have your problems, too,
But it's great to have a friend who will come through . . . like you do.
