"Music to inspire and nourish the soul."

The Planter's Seed

"The Planter's Seed" likens Jesus' parable of the sower to missionary work. The lyrics of this song were written by a young missionary who was wholeheartedly engaged in the work of planting seeds when he wrote them. The sheet music is available as a solo arrangement in two keys (C and D) and as a women's trio (SSA) in two keys (C and D).

Lyrics
The Planter's Seed
A tree is such a mighty thing. It forks and twists and grows.
The ponderous head makes regal sweeps and weathers heartless foes.
The trunk rings tally up the years at pompous, stately pace
While every March the twigs and leaves present and unsung case.
The dew-dropped bud, the gilded flower, they testify, give heed
Of sower's faith, of Master's touch, and one well planted seed.

Some fell upon the wayside. Some fell in richer soils.
Some fell among the weeds and thorns that mocked the sower's toils.
Perhaps his eyes would never see the harvest of his labors.
He never saw the tree or knew the testimony's savor.
But can we doubt? The fruits have shown
The planter's seed was aptly sown.

Firm conviction of the truth is manna sent from Heaven.
Ancient evils fight to flee such testimony given.
The birthplace of this power is naught and far belies its yield.
Where fertile heart and soul abound was sterile, rock-strewn field.
A ray of hope, a touch of love help satisfy the need.
With sower's faith, with Master's touch, and one well planted seed.

Some fell upon the wayside. Some feel in richer soils.
Some fell among the weeds and thorns that mocked the sower's toils.
Perhaps his eyes would never see the harvest of his labors.
He never saw the tree or knew the testimony's savor.
But can we doubt? The fruits have shown
The planter's seed was aptly sown.

The only jewel that we can find of more than transient worth
Would be the priceless human soul, a child of God by birth.
If we would hear with inner ears their screams of agony,
We'd find beneath their cries these words, "Please help. Just plant a seed."
A gentle touch, a warming smile, a true friend hears the plea.
The sower's faith, the Master's touch together plant the seed.

Some fall upon the wayside. Some fall in richer soils.
Some fall among the weeds and thorns that mock the sower's toils.
Perhaps your eyes will never see the harvest of your labors.
You'll never see the tree or know the testimony's savor.
But do not doubt. The fruits will show
That your small seed is aptly sown.

Then softly, faintly on the breeze in Father's tender tones,
We hear Him beg us, "Plant the seeds the bring my children home."
