"Music to inspire and nourish the soul."

A Million Footsteps

The song, "A Million Footsteps" likens our journey through life to the pioneers' journey to the Salt Lake Valley in the 1800s. Although many of us don't encounter the physical hardships the pioneers faced, we have challenges that in some ways are more difficult than those of the pioneers. No matter when we live, we all have a Savior who knows and understands the difficulty of our journey, and He will be there with us to the end—if we will let Him.

Lyrics
A Million Footsteps

I think of the pioneers
Blazing trails clear across the rugged plains.
Their path had not been walked before.
Each day was marked with sorrow and pain.
Many pioneers, they shed a million tears
As they struggled to be true.
They must have walked a million steps
Before their journey was through.
When things got rough I think that they
Would think of Him Who led the way.
They longed to live with Him one day,
And so, perhaps they'd say,

"I'll walk a million footsteps for You.
I'll cry a million tears before this journey is through.
I'll do anything that You ask me to do.
I'll even walk a million footsteps for You."

I am like a pioneer
Blazing trails through the journey of my life.
This path has not been walked before.
It, too, is filled with sorrow and strife.
Like the pioneers, I'll shed a million tears
As I struggle to be true.
I, too, must walk a million steps
Before my journey is through.
When things get rough, I need to think
Of One who gave His life for me,
Then humbly drop on bended knee
And tell Him willingly,

"I'll walk a million footsteps for You.
I'll cry a million tears before this journey is through.
I'll do anything that You ask me to do.
I'll even walk a million footsteps for You."

In this journey of my life,
Will I be content to dally?
Will I stop in Wyoming?
Or will I push through to the Valley?

I think of my Savior now.
He blazed trails linking Earth with Heavenly spheres.
His path had not been walked before.
It, too, was filled with sorrow and tears.
Christ, our Savior shed a thousand drops of blood
As He payed for you and me.
He suffered for a million sins,
So one day we could be free.
When things got rough, He did not quit,
And He did not complain one bit.
When trials overpower me,
He tells me lovingly,

"I bled a thousand droplets for you.
I'll cry a million tears before your journey is through.
I'll do everything for you that I can do.
I'll even walk a million footsteps with you.
I shed my blood for you.
I gave my whole life, too,
And if you ask me to,
I'll gladly walk those million footsteps with you."
